Kira’s Sunday Scribbles

20190914_195055

He lost his head.

He was very much confused when the people around him said he had not grown his head yet. Was his head not well matured enough? How would one grow a head then?

For years, he searched for an appropriate head. But there were so many to choose from! As he was growing up, he saw heads of all shapes and sizes – round, square, triangle, big, small and distorted. Then, when he started working, he saw even more heads – wooden, metallic, beautiful and rotten.

And he tried them all on. Even then, not a single head seem to fit him properly. After a while, he stopped trying to find an appropriate head and just put on one that was always readily and conveniently available, no matter how uncomfortable that head felt at times.

He still mulled over the question from time to time – how would one grow a head?

Eventually, he looked down at his own head which he put aside years ago. He decided to put it back on. Strangely, it suited him despite years of disuse; he still found it the most comfortable.

He decided to keep it.

flawless imperfection

my wings are not flawed
even in the wrong places
i still soar just fine

It has been a while since I write anything and sadly, I found it really difficult to even come up with one senryuu. Try as I might, this is the best I can offer. 😦

Flight of the Seaplane

When the seaplane took off, his fist clenched.

“Chris, nothing’s going to happen.”

“I know,” Chris replied. “I can’t help it.”

His fiancee held his hands. He felt heat from her hands. And the smoothness of her skin. And the rattling of the seaplane.

“Ouch.”

“Sorry.”

“It’s scary, I know. But it will be fine.”

“What if they hate me?”

“Chris, they’re going to like you. There’s probably a good reason why they gave you up for adoption! If they’re willing to see you, that means something, doesn’t it?”

He returned her smile.

Maybe it was all in his mind.

(100 words)

There is so much I want to say in this story and so much I want to expand on. But alas, the word limit forced me to revise and edit the story to the bare minimum. I still hope the double play of the fear, fear of flying and fear of meeting parents, comes through in this story.

Some day, if I’m up to it, I might expand this story and flesh it out. But for now, this will do.

Acceptance

You keep one eye closed
to all the flaws found on me
when I bared myself.

I am revived during the holidays (Vesak Day, a Buddhist celebration in honour of life in our part of the world, in case you are wondering). Refreshed and ready to write again after the break!

And speaking of in honour of life, this is haiku which sprang to my mind almost immediately when I saw the image prompt. Can we ever accept people into our lives without finding faults and flaws? *shrugs*

Prompt: I Write Her Weekly Haiku/Senryu Challenge #20

Am I Human?

I am cheerful.
I am jocular.
Only when I am
with people.

But on paper,
I don’t know
how not to be sad
how to show happiness

My previous happy event
seemed surreal,
my next happy event
is nowhere in sight.

I am simply
an empty vessel
with heavy heart.

And worse of all?
I don’t know
how to function
like a normal person.

But I know
how to curl up
like a baby,
or how familiar
that sinking feeling is
in my chest cavity.

So don’t talk to me,
don’t console me,
just walk along
to see what I see.

That’s all I ask for.
