There is a very good reason when my mother calls us to eat and we respond immediately. We would take however much we want and the last one would have to finish up whatever that is left over to prevent food waste.
My mother would cook enough for 6 people; there are only 4 of us. So naturally, my father is the one to finish everything. Because he is always getting distracted by his phone.
Thank god for mobile phone addiction.

I can so easily imagine that. My father, too, was always the one to eat down to the pattern on the plate, when we all lived together as a young family.

Guess that’s cos, in generations past, it was usually the father’s money that provided the food, and therefore his that would be wasted.

Hmm, I never thought in that way! Usually, it’s more of “Don’t waste food”, then my sister and I would look at each other and say we’re full. At this point, my father is usually STILL on the phone, so I guess it is also…kinda…sorta…his punishment? LOL
