Music
rhythmic melody
releases my tired soul through
melodious rhythm
Music is my life.
That was my original line for this haiku but it somehow lacks that poetic sense to my ears. But music has been a big part of my life, whether I am playing the piano, singing songs or listening to music on my iPod. And most importantly, I store my memories in music as well, as each piece contains a certain memory, a small piece of my life.
This one takes quite some time because I was deciding how many syllables there are in “rhythmic” and “rhythm”. In the end, it occurs to me, there are so many syllable counting websites out there I could have just log in to one of the sites. They all agree on the number of syllables and I heave a sigh of relief.
If you are interested, the prompt is linked below.
PLEASE follow them! I’d hate to not see your piece(s) represented in the recap the following week! Confused? Any questions – email me at sushibocks@gmail.com
For more detailed information, read about this challenge here.
- Create a standard three line, 5/7/5 syllable count haiku/senryu
- Deadline to submit for this week’s challenge will be 12:59pm 5/18/19
- Up to 3 pieces permitted
- Link your piece to this “IWH Haiku/Senryu Challenge” on your post
- Always give photo credit if there is one
- Complete entry form below
Ooh, final line is off in syllables, unless you wanted it to be (six, instead of five). I love what you have here. It matches the photo and the premise of the prompt very well.

Hahahaha, yes! So we agree that “rhythm” is 2 syllables? Many syllable counting websites listed “rhythm” as 1 syllable and I thought my mind is really in the gutters to be unable to count the number of syllables… 😀 And thank you. I saw the image and the first thing that pop up in my mind is, “MUSIC!” LOL

Lawd, “rhythm” is clearly two syllables. Lol. At least, according to Dictionary.com, and my grade school education from back in the day. Why are these new day scholars always trying to change something?! Lol.
Yes, music… I couldn’t see you writing about anything else.

You would not believe it but I searched this on the Google after the confusion and before I knew it, I was reading some academic papers about counting syllables in written form and oral form…let’s just say the confusion did not clear up…LOL

A fellow music-addict. Hi.
I couldn’t live without it (or rather, I don’t want to). From slipping my feet out of bed, to slipping them back in again … music. But I am selective. Some music bores me, some sends me to sleep for lack of stimulation, some grates like a saw rasping across my nerves. Some has me dancing (like that the best), some has me drumming my desk along with it. Some has me swaying.
Hi, fellow-music addict. Nice to know you.

Yes, music addict, that was the phrase I was looking for! What you said is so true. I feel the same as you too. Glad to meet another music addict 😀

Hi, and good morning, Music Addict. How’s your day?
Mine started with a moment of mind-shattering panic as Media Player on the laptop refused to load. Yikes and double yikes. But it’s ok, I listen to YouTube Music instead. (Media Player has now decided to load. Phew.)

Ooh, that was close. That’s why I invested on an iPod that solely plays music and nothing else. I’m glad you have a backup plan for such events

I’ve also the phone, but if the laptop is one, why use the phone.

Because I also listen to music on the go…😂The earphones come on the moment I leave the house and I even sync my walk to the music I’m listening to. I don’t drive so I have the luxury of listening to music and read books while on the bus. Hahaha😆

The phone provides music to walk to. Though that is the only time I might turn it off, If I’m walking through countryside with birdcalls sweet in my ear. But after 6 or 7 or 8 miles I’ll turn it back on. It helps the walk. I don’t use the earphones; it helps my hike-companion know where I am, she says
